Water from the Upper Nile in Southern Egypt

INTERESTING FACTS
The Nile River is the longest river in the world, stretching over 4,000 miles from East Africa to the Mediteranean. Ancient Egypt could not have existed without The Nile. Until the 1970's, melting snow from the Ethiopian mountains caused an annual flood from June until September. Since rainfall is almost non-existant in Egypt, the floods provided the only form of moisture to sustain crops. The Ancient Egyptians called the river "Ar" or "Aur " (black) because of the black sediment left after the river's annual flood. Crocodiles are very common along the Nile.
