INTERESTING FACTS
"A Bo leaf from the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi (Bo Tree). We were obliged to wait until a suitable leaf fell of its own accord outside the sacred enclosure."
- Mary Jo Furgal, excerpt from letter to Kristin Jones and Andrew Ginzel, 1991
Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi is a Sacred Fig tree in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. It is said to be a sapling from the historical Bodhi tree under which Buddha became enlightened. Planted in 288 BC, it is the oldest known living human-planted tree in the world and is one of the most sacred relics of Buddhism.
