INTERESTING FACTS
This button was worn on the coat of a British soldier during the Revolutionary War. On August 27, 1776, the British landed 22,000 men on Long Island, driving back the Americans to Brooklyn Heights in the largest battle of the entire Revolution. Washington personally directed the withdrawal of his remaining army across New York City's East River in one night, without discovery by the British or losing a single man.
Donated by William Asadorian, Queens College Library.
